DMV sent the following e-blast was sent to all inspection stations statewide this afternoon.
Lately, the Division has noticed a high number of customers that have received an inspection prior to the 90 day compliance window. Inspector-Mechanics are taught that a motor vehicle may be inspected up to ninety days prior to the last day of the month in which the registration on the vehicle expires. Vehicles inspected prior to 90 days of their registration expiration may cause the customer to obtain another passing state inspection. At a minimum, customers are finding themselves in need of additional support by DMV staff to help rectify the situation. Please note that inspections conducted on vehicles prior to the 90 day window are IMPROPER INSPECTIONS unless it is a dealer owned vehicle being inspected in preparation of retail sale. An Inspector-Mechanic finding the need to use the bypass code, should verify the vehicle is within the inspection compliance window before conducting the inspection.
